All historical data being stored in Universal Analytics (GA3) will be gone for good by July 2024 – unless you act now to save that data.

Without historical data, you and your clients can’t make informed business decisions!

Google decided to sunset GA3 in 2023, replacing it with GA4.

Even though it’s no longer actively tracking website analytics in GA3, Google is still storing the data that was collected over the years… for now.

All historical data collected in GA3 will be permanently deleted in 2024.

Once Google deletes the historical data it’s been storing, it’s gone for good. Agencies and clients will no longer have access to that data, making it harder to measure performance and make informed decisions.

Without historical data, you can’t look back to see what’s worked for you or your clients, perform year-over-year comparisons, or benchmark growth. While historical GA3 data isn’t apples to apples with GA4, it’s important to have because it can help influence future decisions.

Google provides an option to export historical UA data, but you’re limited in what you get. To get a comprehensive extraction and full access to all your years of data, you need to extract with an API.

We developed a Python code that extracts historical GA3 data through the Google Analytics Reporting API.

We visualize the extracted GA3 data in custom, interactive dashboards on Looker Studio.

Looker Studio reports provide detailed session breakdowns by page, events, and goal completion for a better understanding of how users interact with a site. These insights will help with future optimization.

Viewing sessions by device, browser, and operating system helps determine how users are visiting a site. This can be used to tailor future content to improve a site’s user experience.

Detailed breakdowns of user demographics by locations and other behavior metrics make targeted and personalized marketing campaigns more effective.

The UA Data Extract tool also exports historical data to CSV sheets that will be delivered in different views, or data sets, so you can easily search for the data you need. Each CSV will be linked to the dashboard in Looker for a seamless experience.
